Since 2006, Sewickley Martial Arts Academy has been training students in Taekwondo as well as life skills. "When you are learning martial arts, the focus of your training is not only on physical strength and growth, but also on important skills that help lead to personal successes in life," explains owner and 6th Degree Black Belt, Master Josée Girard. Each student is looked upon as an individual, never compared to anyone else. All that is expected is a willingness to try. Our school has produced State, District, National, Pan-Am and World Champions, but we are most proud of all the outstanding citizens who have learned integrity and respect here at Sewickley Martial Arts Academy.

In 1969, H.U. Lee founded the American Taekwondo Association and he introduced the Songahm philosophy of taekwondo in 1983 after several years of development. This philosophy differs from the traditional styles of taekwondo in that it more clearly reflects the strength and beauty of athleticism and kicking techniques. More importantly, it instills the core values of strong character and positive self-esteem.

Programs

ATA TIGERS (ages 4-6)

No soul or spirit is ever too young to start it’s own journey. The foundations of our morals, values, and core character traits are formed in our early years. For this reason, the ATA Tigers program is an essential way to enhance the growth and development of pre-school and kindergarten aged children.

Martial Arts kids (ages 7-12)

Since its introduction in 1986 as Karate for Kids, the Martial Arts Kids program has helped children all over the world learn discipline, self-esteem and respect. By combining the discipline of traditional martial arts, learning respect through life skill development, and the self-esteem gained through our unique reward system, your child will advance in the martial arts while reaching her/his fullest potential.

teen & adult (13 & up)

In today's society, the ability of a man or woman to defend her/himself is very important. Like all our programs, our Teen and Adult program teaches self defense to gain self confidence and improve physical and mental toughness. Taekwondo training also increases cardiovascular fitness, improves flexibility and coordination, sharpens reflexes, and helps control weight. Adults may start our program at any age.
